Choir Advent Wreaths

"The season of Advent is not only about preparing for the birth of the Christ Child.  The season of Advent is also about preparing for the coming of Christ into our lives and the coming of Christ again in glory."

This past Sunday was the first day of Advent, and we began the celebration by making several Advent Wreaths.  This Christian tradition symbolizes the passage of the four weeks of Advent in the liturgical calendar of the Western church.  The wreath is usually a horizontal evergreen wreath with three purple or blue candles, one pink candle and one white candle. Beginning with the First Sunday of Advent, the lighting of a candle is accompanied by a Bible reading and prayers.  An additional candle is lit during each subsequent week until, by the last Sunday before Christmas, all four candles are lit.  The white candle, the "Christ" candle, which will be in the center of the wreath, is lit on Christmas Eve and throughout the Christmas season.  The custom is observed both in family settings and at public church services.
